Yvonne Kenny AM | Soprano


  

Yvonne Kenny is one of the most distinguished sopranos of her generation. She has sung in many of the world's prestigious opera houses including The Royal Opera Covent Garden; Wiener Staatsoper; La Scala Milan; Berlin Staatsoper; Bayerische Staatsoper Munich; La Fenice Venice; Zurich, Paris Opera; San Francisco Opera and Glyndebourne Festival. She has won particular international renown in the great Handel roles, as well as for her performances of the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier and the Countess in Capriccio. She returns frequently to sing her numerous roles with Opera Australia including her most recent triumph as Blanche in the Australian premiere of A Streetcar Named Desire. 

Recent and forthcoming engagements include concerts with the SSO under Sir Charles Mackerras, a return to Leeuwin Estate, Opera in the Alps, recitals and recordings in the UK, performances of Lady Billows in Albert Herring at Salzburg’s Spring Festival, Alice Ford in Falstaff in London, Dido in Dido & Aeneas for OA, concerts with the Melbourne Symphony, Opera in the Market for Australian Music Events, Jocasta in Oedipus Rex for the Sydney Festival, a special guest appearance in OA's Fledermaus and OA's Singing for Love national concert tour with David Hobson.

She has recorded over 60 international titles for labels including Decca, Teldec, RCA, Sony, Opera Rara and Hyperion - under such conductors as Solti, Harnoncourt, Slatkin, Salonen and Mackerras.   Her best-selling CD's for ABC Classics include her award winning album, Simple Gifts, and most recently, Vienna City of My Dreams with the MSO and Richard Bonynge.

Yvonne Kenny was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1989, and in 1999 was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Music by the University of Sydney. She is Professor of Voice at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
